Hornbill - Bucerotide

Great Hornbill – Buceros bicornis

 

Found in tropical and subtropical region hornbill is the State Bird of Arunachal Pradesh.

Scientific name of hornbill is Bucerotidae. This bird is significantly considered as an important species of Arunachal, it has great cultural attachment especially with Nyishi Tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. It is official bird of Arunachal Pradesh.

In Arunachal Pradesh Hornbill are mostly found Pakke Kesang Tiger Reserve with four different species

·         Oriental Pied Hornbill

·         Rufous – Necked Hornbill

·         Wreathed Hornbill

·         Great Hornbill

 

Breeding Season of Hornbill is in the month of January to April.

If you look at the life span of Hornbill is approximately 35-40 year in wild forest. But with human care it can survive upto 50 years.
