Indian Lipstick Plant Discovered in Arunachal Pradesh
Researchers from Botanical Survey of India (BSI) has rediscovered a rare plant, which is also known as 'Indian Lipstick Plant ' in the remote Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh.
In 1922, a British botanist Stephen Troyte Dunn first identified this plant and nomenclature was made as Aeschynanthus monetaria Dunn.
Later on another British botanist Isaac Henry Burkill identified this plant in Arunachal Pradesh a century ago.
According to BSI scientists Krishna Chowlu said in an article that, " Due to the appearance of tubular red corolla, some of the species under the genus Aeschynanthus are called as Lipstick plants."
During the floristic studies in Arunachal in December 2021, Chowlu collected few specimens of Aeschynanthus from Hyuliang and Chipru of Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, which is identified as Indian Lipstick Plant
